19 item(s) containing the term "mean"

DevCentral Top5 02/03/2012

— We're putting the band back together. And by band, I mean team. And by "putting back together" I mean we're all going to be in the same place, physically. This is a rarity for our remotely distributed team, but next week it is happening, and that is a great thing. It means planning, policies, preparation, prognosticati...

Projections for 2012: Democratized Backup, Quality Assurance and DR to the Cloud

— When I was younger, I believed chronicling the past was far simpler than predicting the future. Little did I know that “history” means “incessant squabbling over what really happened in the past” (did you know there are multiple active magazines about the American Civil War?). On the ot...

Investors and users beware: Facebook is all about IT

— Facebook's S-1 filing shows the company is all about infrastructure. The ad revenue and user experience it relies on to exist mean Facebook can't afford to take it easy on IT, which means shareholders and users will both find plenty of reasons to get upset.

Juice-Jacking Revisited

— It’s a crazy world out there. I ran (well, by “ran” I mean jogged slowly enough to pass the old ladies on the track) this morning at the YMCA, lifted weights for a little while, and then hit the elliptical for 20 minutes before heading home. My gym’s ellipticals have the Nike+ package where you can store your w...

Ubuntu creator warns businesses to be wary of cloud lock-in

F5 Friday: Goodbye Defense in Depth. Hello Defense in Breadth.

— #adcfw #infosec F5 is changing the game on security by unifying it at the application and service delivery layer. Over the past few years we’ve seen firewalls fail repeatedly. The industrialization of the ineffable

— It dawns on me that there may be a correspondence between Steven Johnson's vision of serendipity as the output of a properly manipulated digital mechanism and Nick Bilton's belief in the scheduling of units of daydreaming as a means for the optimization of problem-solving. The Like button seems to be part of the same t...

The Shrink Wrap Redemption

— I never thought I would hear Steve Jobs hail the post-PC era, much less IBM PC legend Mark Dean .  They must be right, because HP just announced its exit from the PC business.  But then Microsoft has said that the PC isn’t even middle-aged. This is as close as it gets to a meaningless [...]

CAP Revisited

— PACELC I just found out about an excellent blog post on the CAP theorem by Daniel Abadi. I agree with his assertions that the CAP theorem is somewhat confusion and like the concept of PACELC. In my opinion, the main problem is an unclear understanding of what C, A, and P actually mean. My 3 [...]

About

My name is Catherine Liao and welcome to my blog. Under news you'll find the latest postings of various blogs I follow. The topics tend to center around WAN Optimization, Cloud Computing, Data Center, Virtualization, Servers, Web Technologies and 24x7 Operations.

These are topics that I'm interested in as I've spent a large chunk of my professional career building, deploying, and maintaining 24x7 application delivery environments. I use the knowledge I've garnered daily in my role as a Business Development Manager for Cisco. I should note that this site is my personal site and does not reflect the views of Cisco.

I'm also very passionate about wine and have created a mobile platform for wine lovers to remember and share the wines they are having. How often have you asked yourself "What was that great bottle of wine I had last night"? Corkbin solves that problem by being your pocket wine memory. The app records the label, notes, & gps location of a wine so that you can look it up the next time you're in a restaurant or wine shop.

Feel free to drop me a note if you find this site useful or if you'd like for me to check out your blog. I can be reached at catherine.liao@gmail.com. You can also connect with me via LinkedIn or Twitter.
